The science of enclosing products after they are manufactured and before they are distributed, stored, sold and used is known as packaging. The act of designing and producing packages is also referred to as packaging. A package is supposed to possess package labeling which contains information such as the manufacturing company, expiry date and any other information important to the consumer. The package labeling contains graphical, electronic and written messages. The main importance of packaging is; easy transportation and storage of products, advertising, and marketing, preventing air and dust from getting into the inside and offering security. Packages are supposed to be made of materials which can be recycled such as plastic. These are the various types of packaging.
The first type of packaging is the resealable packaging. A resealable package enables a consumer to close the package after use. The reclosing prevents the product from going bad and spilling out. Twist ties, adhesive tapes, screw caps, plastic wraps, lids, and hooks are used in reclosing the resealable packages. Once the product has been consumed completely, the resealable package can be used in containing another product.
The stand-up pouches is another packaging method. This type of a package has a flat bottom enabling the package to remain upright. The stand-up pouches are used in containing solids, liquids, and food items. This type of packaging occupies reduced space therefore convenient for storage and handling. A stand-up pouch may be clear or laminated. In order to facilitate viewing of the product, the laminated stand-up pouch should have a clear part.
Custom packaging is another method of packaging. The custom packaging have personalized features. The client must specify the measurements, shape, material and the package labeling such as logos, pictures, and colors. The custom packaging are mostly used in packaging gifts. Today, the design of the custom packaging is done by the use of computer software.
The fourth type of packaging is the aluminum foil packaging. The aluminum foil packaging keeps away dust, light, oxygen, odor, and moisture. Foods in aluminum foil heat up faster compared to those not in aluminum foil.
Another packaging way is the vacuum packaging. Vacuum is the absence of matter. Perishable products are supposed to be packaged inside the vacuum packaging. Bacteria, mold, and yeast cannot grow in the vacuum packaging since there is no air and moisture. Foods and drinks in vacuum packaging stay for longer.
Finally, the polybags are also used as a packaging method. A thin film of plastic is used in the making of the polybags. Poly bags is the widely used method of packaging. After an item has been consumed, the polybag is supposed to be recycled.
